Dispatches from our Classrooms
Dear Waldorf Community,
Imagine how much you learn in 10 years! JK - Grade 8 is as long as Odysseus spent trying to get home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. 10 years! Though his journey home was delayed by wrathful gods, sea monsters, and imprisonment by the nymph Calypso on the island of Ogygia.
Our student learning journey, while full of challenges too, is one of wonder, friendship and discovery.
Enjoy the Victoria Day weekend with the fine weather forecast, and enjoy this week’s Windows into Waldorf full of curiousity and teamwork.
Kind regards,
Conor

A Small Change to End-of-Day Pick-Up
In the spirit of making our end-of-day transition smoother and more enjoyable for everyone, we have made a few adjustments to our dismissal procedure. These small changes will help ease traffic congestion and give our families a calmer, more connected close to the school day.
Here is how it will work:
Students will come out into the sideyard at their regular dismissal time:
Grades 1–3 are dismissed at 3:10 PM
Grades 4–8 are dismissed at 3:20 PM
Students will have time to play until 3:20, when the bell will ring. At that point:
Aftercare students will be asked to go to a different area of the yard
Non-aftercare students will line up by the benches, in the same spot they gather for before-care, ready to be received by their families
A gentle reminder: our supervisory care ends at dismissal time. We completely understand the joy of an impromptu chat at the end of the day, and we love that spirit! We ask that you take those conversations to the park, where the children can keep playing, the fresh air is waiting, and everyone has room to breathe.
Thank you for your partnership in making this work beautifully for our whole community.
Summer Camp Registration (nearly full)
Camp will run weekly for 7 weeks starting on June 15th and ending on July 31st.
Registration Open until May 22 or until spaces are full!
DISPATCHES FROM THE CLASSROOMS
Grade 4 - Reports back on their findings
First they decide which animals that exist in Canada they want to study. Then the students conducted their research and visited the Toronto Zoo to sketch their chosen animals. Thereafter they built dioramas of habitat and wrote about their findings. Some wrote poetry about the white wolves of the North. Some built beaver dams and cougar dens. Bald eagles, salmon, horses and bison, the students knew so much! And they shared their knowledge.
Parents and students from other grades were invited to come to the exhibit to learn from the students about their findings. “Do trumpeter swans mate for life?” asked a Grade 8 student. To which the learned Grade 4 student. replied: “Yes, yes they do.”
Grade 5, 6
Olympiad - Grade Fives will be participating in the Greek Olympiad on Thursday, May 21 and Friday, May 22 at Toronto Waldorf School in Vaughan. The Grade Sixes are invited to come spectate and support on Friday. Pictures from last year’s Olympiad.
Odysseus is coming to Life!
Our play block is well underway! The students are doing an excellent job memorizing their lines and being patient and focused in rehearsal. A big thank you to those who have already helped or signed up to help: to Sonia and Betsy for helping to build sets and props, to Grace for helping students memorize lines, to Theo for working on the set, to Carolyn for organizing the costumes! Also, a big thank you for all the cardboard that was collected!
