At Waldorf Academy, we are famous for our music programme, and how it weaves through the curriculum. As our school grows, we are on the search for the ideal:

Music Teacher

Location: Toronto, ON
Full time position, 40 hours per week.

Overall Position Objective

The Music Specialist fosters community, musicianship, and a genuine love of music among our students from Grade 1 through Grade 8. This position is ideal for a musician and educator who is looking to bring their practice into a purposeful, arts-rich school environment.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Planning and teaching developmentally appropriate music classes for Grades 1–8

  • Directing music for school festivals, celebrations, and seasonal events

  • Collaborating with class teachers to support musical elements in class plays and performances

  • Participating in faculty meetings and school events where faculty attendance is expected

  • Providing timely and meaningful feedback on student progress to parents

  • Actively seeking professional development opportunities, including Waldorf teacher training

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (required). Waldorf Teacher Training Certification or significant progress toward certification (preferred). Bachelor of Education member of the OCT (preferred).

  • Experience: Previous experience teaching in a Waldorf school or familiarity with Waldorf education. Experience teaching elementary-aged children is highly desirable.

  • A current Vulnerable Sector Check and first aid certificate are required for this post.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Strong understanding of child development, particularly the nine-year change.

  • Ability to engage students through storytelling, artistic expression, and experiential learning.

  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.

  • Clear and compassionate communication with students, parents, and colleagues.

  • Commitment to fostering a nurturing and inclusive environment.
