THIS WEEK’S ISSUE INCLUDES

  • Key Dates and Happenings

  • Get your Tickets to the Winter Fair!

Dear Waldorf Community,

If you drop into our Art Centre today you may mistake it for a holiday workshop. Parents and grandparents are busy crafting items that provide the finishing touches of magic that enhance our Winter Fair this Sunday. It is hard to ignore the excitement in the halls as the preparations begin in earnest - in fact the hallways are filled with boxes and tables lined up ready for volunteers to transform our school into a winter wonderland of epic proportions. If you have not already secured your tickets don’t miss out, see the information in the Winter Fair section below.

The effort and planning for this event is exceptional. It is clearly a gift given out of love: the organizers and volunteers are not working for a successful event, they are working to create a place of wonder for children. We live in a time when experiences that engage our sense of wonder are difficult to find.

Enjoy the weekend and see you at the Winter Fair!

Why we Winter Fair -

Our Nov. 30 Winter Fair, lovingly organized by our incredible Community Council, is a cherished tradition filled with music and joy that helps bring true seasonal spirit to our community.

In a time when the din of the mall and commercial bustle of the holiday season can sometimes eclipse a time intended for family and community connection, we invite everyone to join us for a day of awe and wonder. DISPATCHES FROM THE CLASSROOM

Grade 2 Parents! Our first Book Club gathering at 6pm in the Grade Two classroom. We’ll enjoy tea and some delicious treats as we chat and share our thoughts on the book Hold On to Your Kids. The book addresses children's peer-focused development, family influence, and offers ways to affirm parental bonds.

Grade 2 & 3 make Kindling Kit Fire Starters. We are a community that loves camping and embracing nature. Everyone knows preparation is required before we go out to adventure. In Grades 2 & 3 Nature Studies Class, the students made fire starter kits that will be for sale at the vendor's market at the Winter Fair.

A Glimpse into Grade 5 Music from Ms. Hilts

Earlier, the Grade 5 and 6 students had the opportunity to perform for one another in small groups. Each student was paired with one or two students and was given a small piece to learn independently over the course of a few weeks. Students needed to pay attention to time signatures, rhythms, and staying together with the group by following along with the beat. All of the students did very well. We are now focusing on our group instrumental piece “All through the night”, which will most likely be featured in the upcoming Parent Festival. Students are continuing to practice their rhythm/music dictation and music analysis skills in our Thursday afternoon lessons. They have enjoyed learning a new round “Samba Chill” and recently added choreography to this upbeat, energetic song.

IN THE COMMUNITY

In their recent 8-80 Cities newsletter under the “what we are reading” they draw attention that

A Classic Childhood Pastime Is Fading

The article by Erin Sagen explores why fewer children in the U.S. ride bikes today compared to previous generations. Key factors include: safety concerns, urban design, cultural shifts, technology & lifestyle and equity issues. The piece argues that reversing this trend requires investment in bike-friendly infrastructure, cultural change toward active transportation, and policies that prioritize kids’ independence and outdoor mobility.
