Winter Fair Waldorf Style!

Our Nov. 30 Winter Fair, lovingly organized by our incredible Community Council, is a cherished tradition filled with music and joy that helps bring true seasonal spirit to our community.

In a time when the din of the mall and commercial bustle of the holiday season can sometimes eclipse a time intended for family and community connection, we invite everyone to join us for a day of awe and wonder. There are lot’s of reasons for coming together to celebrate the Waldorf way!

1. Celebrating Seasonal Rhythms

Waldorf education places strong emphasis on the rhythms of nature and the turning of the seasons. The Winter Fair marks the transition into the darker months—a time for warmth, light, and reflection. Celebrating winter helps children feel connected to natural cycles.

2. Enriching the Child’s Inner Experience

Winter festivals often focus on light, wonder, and quiet beauty—lanterns, handcrafts, storytelling, and simple gifts. These experiences nurture imagination, reverence, and a sense of awe, which are central to Waldorf pedagogy.

3. Building Community

Winter Fairs bring parents, teachers, and children together. They strengthen the sense of belonging that Waldorf schools value, creating shared memories and fostering cross-grade and cross-family connection.

4. Showcasing Handwork and Craftsmanship

Handmade items, artisan crafts, and student creations reflect core Waldorf principles: working with natural materials, building practical skills, and cultivating aesthetic appreciation. Activities such as candle making and wreath decorating abound. Proceeds generated from our ‘wares’ support programs, class trips, equipment etc.—without relying on lean-in commercialism.

6. Offering a Child-Centered Alternative to Holiday Hype

Amid the commercial bustle of the holiday season, Waldorf Winter Fairs provide a more meaningful family experience. Activities focus on imagination, beauty, and quality rather than on screens, noise, and consumerism.

7. Honouring Tradition

Waldorf schools have held Winter or Advent fairs for decades. These festivals connect families to a shared cultural heritage across the global Waldorf community.
