DIRECTOR’S NOTE

Waldorf Academy Community,

It has been an exciting first week as we transition from a slow summer pace into the rhythm of school.

It has been wonderful to see so many new and returning families, and the smiling faces of your children as they greet teachers and friends.

The Rose Ceremony where Grade 7 & 8 students welcome the Grade 1 class to our school community set a lovely tone to start the year. I hope it eased any initial nervousness you or your children may have had. Judging by the buzz in the hallways, everyone is settling into the joy of learning nicely.

Our weekly newsletter “Windows into Waldorf” has a threefold purpose for our community:

Inform - Engage - Share

Over the weeks as we get into the flow, this Newsletter will continue to share stories and highlights of the week, and also look forward to remind everyone of upcoming school-wide dates.

For this inaugural edition of 2025, please enjoy a collage of photos of activities we enjoyed this week.

* And Grades 4, 5 & 6, enjoy your time outdoors at Camp Wenonah Monday to Wednesday!

Director Waldorf Academy

Get your day started off on the right foot!

At Waldorf Academy, we hold the morning as a precious time of gathering. Starting the day together, on time, and prepared allows children to settle into the morning rhythm, strengthens the class community, and ensures that no child begins the day at a disadvantage.

For Grades 1–3, it is especially beneficial to arrive a little early and drop children off in the side yard, where they can run, play, and connect with friends before lessons begin.

We understand that traffic and family schedules can present challenges. Still, consistent lateness affects both social and academic learning, as well as the flow of the classroom. For this reason, we ask every family to support us in arriving on time. Students are considered late if they arrive after 8:30 a.m.

This policy is meant to be supportive and proactive, helping to create a smooth start for every child. It applies to Grades 1–8.

Late Policy:

  • If a student is late five times in a month, the Pedagogical Lead will contact the parents.

  • If a student is late ten times in a month, the parents and student will meet with the Pedagogical Lead and the main lesson teacher to create a plan for improvement.

  • Each month begins as a fresh start.

  • Parents are asked to drop off their children in the school lobby, where the children will then go upstairs to their classrooms independently.

Together, with your support, we can give all students the gift of a calm and timely beginning to their school day.
