DIRECTOR’S NOTE

The Renovation of our basement begins this WEDNESDAY at 9:30 am. That’s right - next week the lower level of 250 Madison will begin a transformation ending in a spacious and bright Art, Woodworking and Pottery studio!

The renovation will support and enhance our Waldorf arts curriculum, and will provide a beautiful new space for hands-on experience. Our students will craft useful objects using the woodworking tools and benches; they will get their hands dirty as they work with clay; the art materials and open space will provide a haven for handwork and art classes.

The renovation also provides office space for our specialist teachers, a staff kitchen with a professional library, and storage space. This will also become a space for community programming for parents to gather and create.

The renovation will cost $170,000 which includes approximately $60,000 to prevent future flooding and water damage. The insurance funds do not cover this $60,000, nor the $25,000 deductible.

We have received a significant anonymous donation to bring this renovation within our reach. Thank you to our kind benefactor!

We require an additional $40,000 to cover the shortfall between insurance, donation, and the overall renovation costs. We are going to raise this money because our kids deserve this space! We have a plan, you will hear much more in the next few weeks.

This Thanksgiving weekend I send gratitude to Diana, Charley, Alex, Scott, Sal, the incredible team of parents, faculty members and outside experts who managed the emergency repairs this summer and those who volunteered time and expertise to create this our school from flood to flourishing!

With gratitude and optimism,

Conor

STARTING OCTOBER 24 — Extra-Curricular Comics & Writing Club!

Middle-school students (Grades 6, 7 & 8) are invited to drop-in to the Grade 7/8 classroom after school on Thursdays after school to draw, write, and read in a creative workshop environment hosted by author (and Waldorf Academy parent), Damian Rogers. Your child can choose to work independently or collaboratively to create comics, write poems and stories, read graphic novels and cartoons, or finish any writing homework (feel free to ask Damian for help). The club will run for six sessions starting Thursday, October 24 and at the end, you'll make a ‘zine’ featuring your best work. You can drop in unannounced any time, but if you are able, please email Damian (Levi’s mother) to let her know you are coming: dam.rogers@gmail.com

OCTOBER 18 — Picture Day

We are happy to announce that the school's Picture Day this year will be on Friday, October 18. This is a wonderful opportunity to capture memorable moments of your child during their time at Waldorf Academy.

Our photographer will once again be Alex Bradshaw, one of our parents. She will take both class and individual photos, and you can decide afterwards what you would like to order (i.e., no prior signup necessary). After Picture Day, Alex will send details about the ordering process. More details to follow soon.

THANK YOU FOR PIZZA LUNCH!

Thank you to our amazing parent volunteers who stepped in to provide a hot lunch due to scheduling changes around the long weekend. It is wonderful for our children to see parents and grandparents contributing and supporting in the school, and modelling an ethic of care and generosity.

A WEEKEND of REFLECTION & THANKS

We wish those who mark Yom Kippur an easy fast and receipt of forgiveness. For those of you celebrating Thanksgiving, enjoy the blessings of food and family.

HAVE A WONDERFUL LONG WEEKEND!
